1. Introduction to new Disc Labeling Technology: LightScribe
LightScribe
direct disc labeling is an innovative technology, invented by HP, that
allows you to burn lasting, silkscreen-quality labels directly onto your
CD/DVD discs with a laser instead of a printer. LightScribe technology
requires a combination of LightScribe-enabled CD/DVD burner, especially
LightScribe-compatible coated media and LightScribe-supported disc-burning
software to produce professional, excellent labels. The result might be
an impressive image composed of art, text, photos of your own creation.
2.
What’re the features & benefits of LightScribe Technology?
LightScribe
Technology delivers:
•High-quality
labeling with the precision and fine detail previously only available
on professional and entertainment industry labels. No more messy, marker-scrawled
labels or sticky adhesive labels.
•Special LightScribe coating provides long-lasting, scratch-resistant
labels.
•Labels and data can be burned using the same drive wherever and
whenever necessary, without using a separate printer.
•Freedom to combine text and graphics in simple or complex labels
that reflect one’s personality and attitude.
3.
What is LightScribe-compatible Media?
LightScribe-compatible
media have a unique, laser-imageable, screen-printed coating on the label
side. This coating absorbs laser light, which triggers a chemical reaction
that produces a color change. LightScribe-compatible media also have embossed
functional features, which enable these capabilities:
•Optimized
label creation. Information on disc type, size and color
can be accessed by the software application to optimize the labeling process.
•Optimized imaging.
Media-specific parameters are matched to the drive’s capabilities
to ensure optimal imaging.
•System safety. Media-specific
information ensures the data. Label and drive are not damaged during labeling.
4.
How to label a disc by LightScribe Technology?
Creating a
LightScribe disc is simple, but involves two separate processes. The data
side is created using any traditional data authoring software, and if
LightScribe enabled, the application will ask if you want to burn a label.
Then it will gather content to pre-populate a suggested label design and
present the design onscreen. You have the option of selecting that label
or making changes. If you're using standalone disc labeling software,
launch the software application and design the label onscreen by typing
in the title information and choosing or importing graphics.
In either case,
once you have finished with the design, remove the disc from the burner,
flip it over, and reinsert it label-side down. Then click “Print”
to send the image to the burner. After the label is burned, the disc is
ejected and your LightScribe DVD or CD is complete.
5.
How could I tell if the LightScribe-enabled burner is installed in my
notebook computer?
There is an
easy way to know if your CD/DVD burner has LightScribe capabilities. If
the drive shelf that opens, closes and holds the disc has the LightScribe
name/logo on it (the word “LightScribe” is part of the logo),
then your burner has the LightScribe capabilities. If there is NO logo
on the CD/DVD burner then your burner does not have the LightScribe capabilities.
On the other
hand, slimline burners do not have enough space for a LightScribe logo
on the burn tray cover, but a LightScribe logo sticker should be affixed
to all LightScribe-enabled notebooks. To make sure, the presence of the
disc encoder sensor can verify that a drive is LightScribe-enabled. Looking
straight down on the spindle after burn tray is opened, look for presence
of a LightScribe disc encoder sensor as an indicator of LightScribe capability.
6.
How to erase LightScribe-labeled labels from the discs?
The best way
to erase the label side of the disc is with a soft, lint-free cloth. In
addition, there are cleaning kits available on the market, or you can
get rid of the labels with water.
